Día Internacional de la Obstetricia y la Embarazada

La fecha, se instauró en honor al día en que murió San Ramón Nonato en el año 1240. Según relata la historia, este Cardenal, nacido en Lérida en el año 1204, fue extraído con vida, del vientre de su madre muerta el día anterior. En relación con las circunstancias de su nacimiento, este Santo fue elegido patrono de las obstétricas, parturientas y embarazadas.

A partir del 31 de agosto de 1934 se conmemora el Día de la Partera Argentina, establecido por la Asociación Obstétrica Argentina; pero a partir de 1962 pasó a llamarse Día de la Obstetricia y la Embarazada, elegido durante el “Segundo Congreso Interamericano de Obstétricas” realizado en Perú, que acordó celebrar este día en los países de América Latina.

Desde el Ministerio de Desarrollo Humano hacen llegar un afectuoso y cálido saludo a todas las y los obstetras en su día, especialmente a los que se desempeñan en la red pública de salud provincial, y que trabajan día a día en los centros de salud y hospitales, para ofrecer a la embarazada las mejores atenciones y cuidar tanto de ellas como de sus bebés, contribuyendo a mejorar la salud del binomio madre – hijo.

Asimismo, los alientan a reafirmar el compromiso de trabajar fuertemente en la promoción y protección de los derechos humanos en el embarazo, parto y nacimiento, agradeciéndoles por la loable misión que cumplen con tan alta responsabilidad y humanidad.

La Obstetricia, es una disciplina que cumple importantes funciones dentro del equipo de salud, realizando controles prenatales, preparación integral para la maternidad, atención del parto, posparto, puerperio y del recién nacido.

También tiene un rol preponderante en la salud integral de la mujer, llevando adelante actividades de promoción y prevención, acentuadas en el cuidado de la salud reproductiva y en la prevención de enfermedades de transmisión sexual, entre otras.

El obstétrico es un recurso humano adecuado y capacitado, que humaniza la atención integral de la embarazada. Es reconocido por la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) como el profesional adecuado para la reducción eficaz y sostenible de la mortalidad materna y neonatal.

La atención que brinda, comprende también aspectos psicológicos y sociales de un período tan especial como es la maternidad, por lo cual la calidad humana del obstetra es tan importante como su experiencia profesional. Además de realizar los controles necesarios para evaluar la salud y el desarrollo del embarazo, enseña a la mamá y la familia, aspectos fundamentales sobre la llegada del bebé.
