Día de los ferrocarriles (en Argentina)
Se celebra el 30 de Agosto debido a que es esta fecha pero del año 1857 es que se inaugura la primera línea de ferrocarril del nuestro país, con un trayecto que iría desde la actual Plaza Lavalle de Buenos Aires hasta la estación La Floresta, zurcada por “La Porteña” una pequeña locomotora fabricada tres años atrás en Gran Bretaña, utilizada en la pasada guerra de Crimea, ya habiendo realizado meses antes pruebas exitosas, comandada por los hermanos Juan y Thomas Allen.
Aunque cabe destacar que el primer viaje inaugural se realiza hacia el mediodía del día sábado 29 de agosto, se toma el día 30 como “Día de los Ferrocarriles” ya que al día siguiente quedaron oficialmente inauguradas las líneas férreas.
Era una mañana soleada, al llegar al pueblo de San José de Flores, el tren inaugural es saludado por todo el pueblo reunido que se encontraba en las inmediaciones, además de la banda del 2 de Línea allí estacionada que tocaba la Marcha de Lavalle, para luego finalizar su recorrido como estaba estipulado en Floresta donde una multitud los esperaba para vitorearlos, llevando en total unos 35 minutos de viaje, a una velocidad aproximada de 20 kilómetros por hora.
