La Asociación Latinoamericana de Integración (ALADI) declaró que el 24 de julio de 1993, día del nacimiento de Simón Bolívar (24 de julio de 1783) se celebre el Día de la Integración de América Latina
Simón Bolívar fue un prócer venezolano que luchó para liberar a los pueblos americanos de la dominación extranjera. Su sueño era verlos unidos en una sola patria.
La integración latinoamericana, es el conjunto de acciones que tienen como finalidad consolidar la integración de los países de América Latina y el Caribe acorde a sus similitudes; ya sean políticas, sociales, económicas, culturales, religiosas, lingüísticas, ideológicas, geográficas…
Las razones para establecer un Día de la Integración de América Latina, son fortalecer las democracias, la identidad cultural y jurídica latinoamericana, el crecimiento económico, el mantenimiento de la paz, el fortalecimiento de las negociaciones internacionales, el desarrollo humano de las personas y la creación de una comunidad latinoamericana.
