1992 – Atentado a la Embajada de Israel.

Aproximadamente a las 14:45 hs. detonó en la puerta de la sede de la Embajada de Israel ubicada en la calle Arroyo 916 de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, una carga explosiva de entre 55 a 60 kg contenida dentro de una camioneta Ford F-100, transformándose el país, por primera vez en su historia, en escenario involuntario de la exportación del conflicto de Medio Oriente.

El brutal atentado dejó, un saldo de veintisiete muertos y, aproximadamente trescientos cincuenta heridos, además de cuantiosos daños materiales. En la República Argentina vive la comunidad Judía más cuantiosa de todo América Latina.

El atentado se llevó a cabo como en horas de la tarde, a manos de algún conductor suicida que estrelló la camioneta mencionada contra el frente de la Embajada de Israel, derrumbando el edificio y causando daños colaterales a varias construcciones de la zona, como una escuela y una iglesia del barrio.

Las investigaciones llevadas a cabo, tuvieron rumbos a oriente los primeros días, cuando grupos del Jihad primero en el líbano, y de Hezbollah luego, se autoadjudicaron haber realizado el atentado, luego de dilatarse en el tiempo las pericias y no llegar a ningún veredicto consistente, se llegó a decir que los responsables del hecho fueron ajusticiados por Israel mismo, mientras que en la Argentina la causa prescribió, inconexamente con las medidas y acciones que haya tomado el Estado de Israel o quien corresponda.

Hoy en la actualidad se encuentra levantada parte del muro de la embajada, de la construcción original, junto a dos hileras de árboles, de tilo, que simbolizan a las víctimas del atentado y cada 17 de marzo, a las 15 horas se recuerda en esa plaza, en un acto por la memoria de esa nefasta tarde de la historia Argen
