Tras siglos de saqueos, guerras y colonizaciones, es cada vez más difícil encontrar vestigios del antiguo Egipto. Pero eso fue precisamente lo que descubrió un grupo de arqueólogos en una excavacación en Saqara, donde se hallaron al menos 13 sarcófagos intactos y sellados de hace 2.500 años.
Según informó el Ministerio de Turismo y Antigüedades, el descubrimiento se produjo en un pozo de 11 metros de largo. Allí, los estudios preliminares indican que los ataúdes de madera están completamente cerrados y no se han abierto desde el momento del entierro. Además, los expertos señalan que es posible que no sean los únicos de la zona, siendo probable que haya otros sarcófagos en los nichos de los flancos del pozo.

De ser correcta la estimación de la antigüedad, el entierro correspondería a la época del Imperio Antiguo, que fue cuando se forjó y consolidó el sistema político, cultural y religioso en torno al faraón.

Se trata del mayor descubrimiento en la zona desde octubre del año pasado, cuando se produjo el mayor hallazgo en un siglo: 30 sarcófagos en Luxor.
